About the Company

Our client is a well-established civil contractor delivering infrastructure, land development, and urban projects across the East Coast. With a strong and growing pipeline in NSW, they are seeking their first Lead Surveyor in the Coffs Harbour region to establish and lead survey operations locally.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of survey operations in a new region. You’ll play a pivotal role in setting up systems, managing workflows, and building a high-performing team.

The role will be 50/50 office and site-based, combining hands-on surveying with leadership, planning, and coordination responsibilities.

Initially, you’ll be supported by 1–2 contract surveyors, with the opportunity to build and mentor your own team of junior surveyors as the region grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and lead survey operations across the Coffs Harbour region
• Manage and coordinate 1–2 contract surveyors
• Deliver hands-on survey work across active civil projects
• Oversee survey data, model management, and QA/QC processes
• Provide technical guidance on GNSS and machine control systems
• Work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to meet program requirements
• Drive efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement across survey functions
• Recruit, mentor, and develop junior surveyors as the team expands
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards

Key Skills & Experience

• Minimum 10+ years’ experience in civil construction surveying
• Proven ability to work autonomously and lead from the front
• Strong proficiency in 12d software
• Experience with Trimble and/or Leica machine control systems
• Solid background in QA/QC, data management, and as-built reporting
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to balance office-based planning with hands-on site delivery

Qualifications & Tickets

• Surveying qualification (Cert IV minimum – Degree desirable)
• White Card
• Current Driver’s Licence
• Additional tickets (Drone/RePL, First Aid) advantageous
